Connect Stripe to take card payments

Connect your own Stripe account so your website can take card payments, check its status, and disconnect it.

To take card payments on your website, connect your own Stripe account in Settings → Payments and shipping. The money goes straight to your Stripe account and on to your bank. Lotmaster never holds it.

Website checkout is available on Pro and Business, and during your free trial.

Only the shop's owner can connect or disconnect Stripe. Helpers see the status and can use Check Stripe now.

You don't need a Stripe account before you start. You can make one on the way, and you'll never need to copy keys from Stripe.

Connect Stripe

  1. On a computer, click Settings in the sidebar, then Payments and shipping. On a phone, go to the More tab, tap Settings, then Payments and shipping.
  2. Read What you can’t sell on your website above the Stripe panel, then tap Connect Stripe.
  3. On Stripe's page, sign in to your Stripe account, or make a new one.
  4. Approve the connection. Stripe sends you back to Lotmaster.

You'll see "Connected to Stripe as" and your account's name.

You can also do this in the setup wizard's Take card payments step, which brings you back to the wizard afterwards.

What the status means

  • Taking card payments: you're all set. Your Stripe account ID is shown under it.
  • Stripe needs more details: you haven't finished Stripe's own setup. Finish adding your business details and the bank account payouts go to, in Stripe.
  • Stripe is checking your details: Stripe has what it needs and is checking it. This usually takes a few minutes, sometimes a day or two.

Open Stripe takes you to your Stripe dashboard.

Check Stripe now

After you finish something in Stripe, tap Check Stripe now to update the status straight away. It tells you "Stripe is ready to take payments." or "Stripe still needs details from you. Finish setting up in Stripe."

If you disconnected Lotmaster from inside your Stripe dashboard, Check Stripe now notices and says "Stripe is no longer connected to this shop."

When the Buy button appears

The Website checkout card on the same page says Buy button on or Buy button off, with the reason if it's off. Your website shows Buy now on items once:

  • your plan includes website checkout,
  • Stripe is connected and says Taking card payments,
  • and your website is published.

See How Buy now works for what happens when a buyer pays.

Disconnect Stripe

  1. Go to Settings → Payments and shipping.
  2. Tap Disconnect and confirm.

Your website can't take payments until you connect again. Your Stripe account, its money and its payouts aren't affected.

If it doesn't connect

  • "Stripe connection was cancelled": you left Stripe's page without approving. Tap Connect Stripe again.
  • "That Stripe account is connected to another shop.": one Stripe account can belong to one shop. Disconnect it in the other shop first, or connect a different Stripe account.
  • "You switched shops while connecting Stripe.": start again from the shop you want to connect.
  • "Stripe connection expired. Try again.": tap Connect Stripe again.

Refunds, disputes and tax

These all happen in your own Stripe account. See Refunds and disputes and Sales tax on website sales.

Check what you plan to sell against What you can't sell through Lotmaster. Stripe has its own rules too.
